JV Basketball Preview

Basketball is just underway and the season is about to start. I think it's time to breakdown the 2012-2013 BGBS JV basketball team (boys). Let's breakdown what happened last year.

Last Year: Last year’s team was a solid team led with a all sophomore starting five (in most cases). With a good perimeter presence, a big body down low to crash on the boards, and a athletic core.. This team had it made for them. Due to the lack of practices and time to train, this teams dream of a JV State run were crushed as the placed 3rd in their region. They ended the year with a 14-3 record.

This Year: This year, though losing all of the starters from last year, may have a even stronger starting five. With 4 experienced sophomores in Jarad Winklepleck, Daniel Bussell, Noach Cochran, and Chandler Dawson, the experience is there. The team has an exceptional team chemistry and play well with each other. Each teammate knows that there is no "I" in team, and live up to this. This is a very unselfish team, a heart filled team, and an exceptionally skilled team. The outlook on this team is nothing short of greatness. This could be, without a doubt, the best JV basketball team in this schools history. The downfall of this team, if there is any, will be lack of depth. This will be of concern whenever in crunch time situations, when veteran players are needed most. If a situation comes up with 3 players in foul trouble, even for this team that could be disastrous.

Teams to watch out for:
  1. Wesley: This was the team that put Blue Grass out of it last year and ended the hopes of a JV state title. This team is a mirror image of BGBS. They're losing most of their starting lineup, but are very well equipped and experienced. Be sure to look for this team to give Blue Grass the biggest issues coming into this year.
  2. Cornerstone: This team is coming off a state championship. This team returns their starting point guard (and varsity starting point guard) but lack depth and experience. This will be a solid team, but look for Blue Grass to add a "w" in the win column with this game.
  3. Community: The anticipation to play this team could be at an all-time high. After losing their (BGBS) starting center to Community, tension is high. Community may have recruited gained 2 or 3 sophomores that will significantly help their chances. This could possibly be a tough team, but if these players are anything less than great, it will be a sub-par team this year for Community.
  4. Somerset: This team is a tricky subject. They return two starters that are extremely good. But, the rest of the team goes with EXTREME question. The middle school team they had looked horrendous, but this could all change in time. Teams magically gain players. (See #3 and the four players they magically gained under odd circumstances).

Overall:  The overall look on this team is very promising. With transfer student Daniel Bussell, combo guards Jarad Winklepleck and Noah Cochran, Defensive specialist and Guard/Forward Hybrid Chandler Dawson, and defensive lefty star Mark Karenbauer, this team looks to promise big things for this school. Who knows...? Maybe a title comes back to Lexington, and banner is hung just like this past UK team! Only time will tell.
